Srinagar, August 10 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and organizations have paid glowing tributes to prominent martyred Hurriyat leader, Sheikh Abdul Aziz on the eve of his 9th martyrdom anniversary.
It was on 11th August, 2008, that Sheikh Abdul Aziz was shot dead by Indian troops while he was leading a procession from Srinagar to the Line of Control against the economic blockade of the Valley by Hindu extremists of Jammu.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the martyrdom of Sheikh Abdul Aziz had further promoted the liberation movement and his martyrdom was beacon light for the innocent people of Kashmir.
He said that the people of Kashmir had been sacrificing for last seventy years and reiterated the pledge to continue liberation struggle till taking it to its logical conclusion. He said that the best way to pay tributes to Sheikh Abdul Aziz and other martyrs was to follow their steps and continue their struggle till complete success.
Hurriyat leaders, Yasmeen Raja, Farida Behanji, Shabbir Ahmad Dar, Muhammad Iqbal Mir, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, Imtiyaz Ahmad Reshi, Ghulam Nabi War and Yasmeen Raja in their joint statement in Srinagar said that 2008 agitation was the turning point towards Kashmir dispute when people from all walks of life took to streets against India. They said Kashmir dispute has entered a final stage and it is need of the hour to show greater unity among the ranks.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz was shot dead by Indian troops during 2008 mass agitation against the India’s illegal occupation and economic blockade.
Meanwhile, Kashmir Tehreek-e-Khawateen Chairperson, Zamrooda Habib in a statement asked Kashmiri people to raise their strong voice against civilian killings in Kashmir She visited Hajin area of Bandipora to extend her solidarity with the family of martyr, Aabid Hameed.
