Sheikh Aziz remembered on his martyrdom anniversary

Srinagar, August 11 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other Hurriyat leaders have paid glowing tributes to prominent martyred Hurriyat leader, Sheikh Abdul Aziz on his 9th martyrdom anniversary.

Sheikh Abdul Aziz was shot dead by Indian troops on this day in 2008 while he was leading a procession from Srinagar to the Line of Control against the economic blockade of the Kashmir Valley by Hindu extremists of Jammu.

The forum spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Sheikh Abdul Aziz offered the sacrifice of his life for a great cause and his contribution towards freedom struggle of Kashmir would always be remembered. He said that the Kashmiri people were giving huge sacrifices in the freedom struggle and these sacrifices were a priceless asset for the ongoing liberation movement, people and the leadership.

The spokesman said that for the past seven decades, people of Kashmir had been giving sacrifices of every nature and it was because of these sacrifices that the Kashmir dispute was echoing in almost all forums of the world. The international bodies feel the need of resolving the dispute which has endangered the peace of entire South Asia, he added.

The spokesman urged the people to make the strike call for tomorrow (Saturday) a complete success. The call has been given against the open assault on the Kashmir’s special status, oppression, killing of innocents, reign of terror, raids and siege in villages and harassment of people especially in south Kashmir.

Hurriyat leaders, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza, Bilal Siddiqui, Mir Muhammad Iqbal and Qutab-e-Alam in their statements in Srinagar also paid homage to Sheikh Abdul Aziz and other martyrs. “Martyrs of Kashmir are beacon light for us and their mission will continue till it reached its logical conclusion,” they said.
