Srinagar, August 25 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, extending their support to the protest calendar issued by the joint resistance leadership to safeguard Article 35A, traders and their Jammu and Kashmir Coordination Committee (JKCC) have said that they are ready to face bullets for protection of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Kashmir Traders Manufacturers Federation and the Kashmir Economic Alliance in a statement in Srinagar said, “It will be all-out war if the Indian government scraps Article 35A.”
The BJP-led government in India is attempting to abrogate Article 35A of the Indian Constitution to convert the Muslim majority in occupied Kashmir into minority.
The KTMF President, Muhammad Yaseen Khan, said that it was a matter of life and death for the Kashmiri people. The business community, be it traders, hoteliers or transporters, is ready to sacrifice their lives to protect their special status, he added.
The Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) of the territory announced a one-hour peaceful sit-in at the Press Colony in Srinagar on August 28. The EJAC President, Abdul Qayoom Wani, said, “Employees are part of society and will never remain silent on the issue of diluting the special status of Kashmir.” “Any move to damage the special status will prove detrimental for peace of the territory,” he said.
The JKCC held a meeting in which the members resolved to stand united against all attempts aimed at diluting special status and changing demography of Jammu and Kashmir.
The JKCC said, “Besides, the JKCC has also announced a silent sit-in, tomorrow (Saturday), at 11:30am at Lal Chowk, Srinagar, which will be attended by members of all constituents of JKCC along with their affiliates.”
Meanwhile, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference leaders in Jammu region including Mir Shahid Salim, Muhammad Shareef Sartaj and Shaheen Iqbal in their statements also extended their full support to the protest programme and shutdown call announced by the joint resistance leadership. They said that abrogation or tinkering with Article 370 and 35A was aimed at changing the demography of Jammu and Kashmir.
