NIA raids residences of Hurriyat leaders in IOK

Mirwaiz under house detention, Malik arrested

Srinagar, September 07 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Delhi-based National Investigation Agency in continuation of its threat and intimidation policy raided, today, the residences of Hurriyat leaders, Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Shaukat Ahmad Bakhshi and the office of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir at Hyderpora in Srinagar.

NIA teams along with contingents of Indian police and Central Reserve Police Force conducted raids at more than one dozen places across the Valley. They harassed the inmates at the residences of many Hurriyat activists and traders and subjected them to humiliation.

Indian authorities placed the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and APHC leader Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai under house arrest in Srinagar. They arrested Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik and lodged him in Central Jail, Srinagar. The actions followed the announcement by Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik to voluntarily present themselves for arrest at the NIA headquarters in New Delhi on Saturday.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference in a statement strongly condemned the raids carried out by NIA in every nook and corner of the territory saying that the main objective of these raids was to terrorize people. They said the NIA is framing false cases against resistance leaders and respectable citizens to intimidate them into abandoning the struggle for right to self-determination.

Several people were injured in clashes with Indian troops in Pulwama and Shopian districts. The troops barged into many houses in Shopian and subjected the inmates to severe torture.

Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency grilled Kashmir Bar Association President Mian Abdul Qayoom for over seven hours at its headquarters in New Delhi. The Bar Association at its General Body meeting in Srinagar, today, decided to continue to abstain from court work, tomorrow, against the unnecessary questioning of Mian Qayoom by the NIA. The Bar Association in an open letter to the Chief Justice of Indian Supreme Court cited the grounds on which NIA had unleashed its malicious campaign in the occupied territory. The letter says that Mian Qayoom is victimized because he represents the voice of the people and has been fairly active in pleading their cases in different courts.
