Thousands attend martyrs’ funerals
Srinagar, September 11 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops in their continued acts of state terrorism killed two more youth in the territory, today, bringing the toll to five in two days.
The youth, identified as Sayar Ahmad Wani and Dawood Illahi Khan, were martyred by the troops during a cordon and search operation in Khudwani area of Kulgam district. The killing led to spontaneous shutdown in Kulgam and Islamabad districts. The authorities suspended mobile and Internet services in the two districts.
Thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of Sayar Ahmad Wani and Dawood Illahi Khan. Multiple rounds of funerals were held for the youth in their native Hawoora and Wanpora areas of Kulgam. The martyrs were laid to rest amid pro-freedom, pro-Pakistan and anti-India slogans.
Speakers at a seminar in Jammu organized by Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Movement and United Peace Movement called for settlement of the Kashmir dispute through tripartite talks between Pakistan, India and true representatives of Kashmiri people. They said that the present situation in Jammu and Kashmir was grave and alarming particularly in the wake of crackdown and harassment of the Kashmiri leadership by NIA and other Indian agencies. The speakers said that New Delhi’s aggressive and communal approach had further alienated the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The resolutions supporting resolution of Kashmir dispute and protesting against the plan to abrogate Article 35A were passed in the seminar. Hundreds of people including representatives from Hindu, Sikh, Dogra and Muslim communities attended the function.
The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, in a statement in Srinagar said that people’ overwhelming support to Kashmiris’ right to self-determination had frustrated India. He deplored that the Kashmiris were being mercilessly killed, maimed, blinded and women were molested and properties vandalized by Indian forces for demanding their inalienable right to self-determination.
The Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement said that Kashmir was neither a law and order issue nor was an internal matter of India, but it was a human and political issue, which needed to be resolved as per Kashmiris’ aspirations. The Democratic Freedom Party in a statement expressed serious concern over the arrest spree unleashed by India’s National Investigation Agency along with Indian police across the territory.
Journalists working with different media organizations staged protests at press enclave in Srinagar against the arrest of photojournalist Kamran Yousuf by NIA.
On the other hand, the Committee for the Release of Political Prisoners in a statement in New Delhi condemned the continued confinement of its President, Professor SAR Gilani at his residence in New Delhi. The comittee also denounced the arrest of Syed Ali Gilani, Muhammad Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
