Mani Shankeraiyar says he met Mirwaiz, Ghani Butt

Srinagar, September 25 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, senior Congress leader, Mani Shankar Aiyar met the Hurriyat forum Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and executive member Professor Abdul Ghani Butt and discussed with them the BJP’s dialogue offer to the resistance leaders. The meeting took place at Mirwaiz’ Nigeen residence in Srinagar.

Shankar Aiyar in a media interview in Srinagar said: “I met Mirwaiz sahib and Butt sahib. We discussed dialogue offer of Ram Madhav threadbare.” However he declined to disclose the response of the Hurriyat leaders. “That I won’t be telling you,” he said.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s General Secretary, Ram Madhav recently said in Kashmir that the government of India was open to talk to everybody who wants to come and have a dialogue with it. The senior Congress leader said that it was to be seen whether the offer of Madhav is meaningful and sincere. “I was in Srinagar for 48 hours and met cross section of people, apart from Mirwaiz sahib and Prof Butt,” he said, adding that the (Madhav’s) offer was also discussed with intellectuals and other people.

Professor Abdul Ghani Butt confirmed his meeting with Aiyar, but declined to disclose what transpired therein. “He was with us for about an hour,” he said.

However, he said the situation is becoming conducive both in India and Pakistan for a dialogue on Kashmir resolution. He said both India and Pakistan are of the opinion that the resolution of Kashmir dispute should not be delayed anymore. “Dialogue is the only alternative,” Abdul Ghani Butt said, adding that everybody should focus on dialogue.
